Help Wanted!

By Russ Pate, Governor’s Cup Event Director

The Governor’s Cup event committee has adopted the goal of developing the event into one that attracts many thousands of participants.  By growing the event we hope to expand its impact on the community’s health and to bring many visitors to the Greater Columbia area.  To achieve these goals, we need help.

Caitlin Batten: In pursuit of speed

In a Governor’s Cup Road Race field that always includes elite athletes, Caitlin Batten has gone from the sixth overall woman in 2013 to the second overall woman in 2016. In 2015 she was named South Carolina Long Distance Runner of the Year by USA Track and Field.

While she has always been a fast runner, Caitlin wanted to learn how to kick up her training a notch. When she added speed and tempo workouts, she became much faster.  Now she has Olympic dreams and the racing speed to realize them.
